Adrian Villegas is the star and playwright of the one-man comedies “Six Mexicans Named Gonzalez” and “Barrio Daze” and the Artistic Director of Austin, Texas’ Emmy-nominated sketch troupe The Latino Comedy Project (LCP). Villegas returns with the world premiere of “Hispanic Republican Male: Into The Pendejoverse,” an all-new multimedia solo play that explains why so many of your tios are MAGA-voting pendejos now.
“Touching and hysterical…Villegas is a joy to watch.”
– Adrienne Martini, The Austin Chronicle
Premiering August 13-24, 2025 at the Austin Playhouse, “Hispanic Republican Male” comedically examines a wide socio political spectrum of brown MAGA men and the emotional and psychological roots of their radical conversions. The show’s central character, an aggrieved Latino man consumed by years of the non-stop right-wing media messaging of bigotry and grievance, is confronted by an alternate version of himself who reminds him that he was not always the man he has become. They revisit the critical life moments and personal blind spots that left him vulnerable to the deforming influence of right-wing propaganda.
“Brilliant!…Very funny…A charismatic and smart performer.”
– Teresa Marrero, NTX Onstage
In addition, the show explores a rich multiverse of other varied “Hispanic Republican Males:” the tax cut-loving Latino entrepreneur; the gun-worshipping, violently fantasizing “militia” man; the compulsive extremist conspiracy-monger; and even a secretly undocumented Latino Trump supporter. The show also dissects the central pillars of their chosen ideology and explore its degenerative impact on critical thinking and the capacity for basic human empathy.
“The only answer is helpless laughter. Mr. Villegas’ gift is in making we, the different people, laugh together.”
– Tom Sime, The Dallas Morning News
